It’s the only place you have to live.”

Traditional Kerala Foot Therapy

Chavutti Thirumal literally means foot pressure in the Malayalam language. It is a traditional Indian massage technique developed by the Kalari Martial Artists (Kalaripayattu), and it is thought to be approximately two thousand years old. This unique therapy, is an inseparable part of Kerala traditions. It is a special whole body massage using the feet instead of hands. The therapist holds on to the rope and balances himself in order to give the best pressure during the treatment. Full body weight is used to give the effective and profound massage.

Chavutti Thirumal
The advantage of feet over hands is that with one deep, powerful stroke the whole length of the clients body can be massaged, from the tips of the fingers to the tips of the toes. The long flowing strokes literally ‘iron out’ knots and kinks in the muscular skeletal system whilst encouraging a mental state of deep relaxation. By gently stretching and realigning the spine, these long graceful strokes help to create space between previously compacted vertebrae, leaving you feeling taller as well as invigorated and deeply relaxed.

The oils are handmade according to the old Ayurvedic recipes. They consist of fresh herbs and plants from Kerala (South India). They are carefully prepared by healers, which boil the plants on the wooden fire for several days, chant special formulas according to the ingredients and the healing properties.
